Urogenital Triangle Flashcards
Where does the urogenital triangle run from/to
The ischial tuberosities to the pubic symphysis
What is within the urogenital triangle
The urethra
Describe the fascia within the urogenital triangle
Fatty and membranous
What is Campers fascia continuous with
Ischiorectal fossa and the thigh
What makes up the fatty fascia of the UT
Camper’s fascia
What is Camper’s fascia replaced by in the scrotum
Dartos smooth muscle
What comprises the membranous fascia
Scarpa’s fascia
What does Scarpa’s fascia become
Colle’s fascia
Where does the membranous fascia attach to/ insert into
Posterior border of the UT diaphragm and inserts into the labia/scrotum
What is the urogenital diaphragm composed of
Two layers of fascia and a layer of muscle
Describe the superficial layer of fascia in the UD
It is deep and blends with the perineal body and membrane
Describe the layer of muscle in the UD
Composed of sphincter urethrae and deep transverse perineal muscles
Describe the inferior layer of fascia in the UT
It is superficial and is known as the perineal membrane
What pierces the UD in both sexes
The urethra
Describe the sphincters within the urethra
Involuntary composed of smooth muscle
Voluntary composed of skeletal muscle
What happens to the layers of the UD anteriorly
They fuse
Fusion of the layers of the UD causes what
A small gap to be left near the pubic symphysis
What happens to the posterior layers of the UD
The membranous superficial fascia and perineal body fuse
What is the space between the layers of the UD known as
The deep perineal pouch
What is within the deep perineal pouch
Urethra, sphincter urethrae, deep transverse perineal muscles, internal pudendal vessels and branches, and pudendal (perineal) nerve
What is with the deep perineal pouch of a female
The vagina and the dorsal nerve of the clitoris
What is within the deep perineal pouch of the male
The membranous urethra, dorsal nerves of the penis, bulbourethral glands and penile arteries
Where is the superficial perineal pouch
Between the perineal membrane + superficial fascia of the UD and the skin
What is within the superficial perineal pouch
Ischiocavernosus, bulbospongiosus and superficial transverse perineal muscles, urethra, vagina, clitoris, erectile tissue, nerves and vessels
What are the erectile tissues
Crura, bulb of the vestibule (female)/bulb of the penis (male)
What is the perineal body
A small fibrous structure that sits on the posterior margin of the UD
What attaches to the perineal body
External anal sphincter, bulbospongiosus and superficial transverse perineal muscles
What is the penis composed of
The bulb of the penis, corpus spongiosum, corpus cavernosum, glans and urethra
What are the corpus cavernosum muscles
Extension of the crura
What is the corpus spongiosum
An extension of the bulb of the penis
What supplies blood to the penis
Deep artery of the penis, dorsal artery of the penis, artery of the bulb and artery of the penis
What are the arteries of the penis
Perineal branches of the internal pudendal artery
What are the four parts of the male urethra
Pre-prostatic, prostatic, membranous and spongy
What structure is involved in both the urinary and reproductive systems in males
The urethra
