Upper limb Flashcards
Areas of transition between different parts of upper limb
Axilla
Cubital fossa
Carpal tunnel
Glenohumeral joint movements
Flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, internal rotation, external rotation and circumduction
MCP joints
biaxial condylar joints
Abduction, adduction, flexion, extension and circumduction
ITP joints
Hinge joints which only allow flexion and extension
Muscles connecting scapula and clavicle to trunk
trapezius, levator scapulae and rhomboids
Muscles connecting scapula and clavicle to proximal end of humerus
pectoralis major, pectoralis minor, lat dorsi, teres major and deltoid
Muscles connecting scapula to humerus
Rotator cuffs - subscapularis, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor
Borders of axillary inlet
lateral margin of rib I
Posterior surface of clavicle
Superior margin of scapula
medial surface of coracoid process of scapula
Contents of axillary inlet
Axillary artery
axillary vein
Brachial plexus
Musculocutaneous nerve C5-C7 innervates
All anterior compartment of arm
Skin on anterolateral side of forearm (lateral cutaneous nerve of forearm)
Median nerve C6-T1 innervates
Anterior compartment of forearm except FCU and medial half of FDP.
Palmar surface of lateral 3 digits and nail beds
Ulnar nerve C7-T1 innervates
All intrinsic muscle of hands except thenar muscles and two lateral lumbricals
Palmar and dorsal surface of medial 1 and 1 half digits
Radial nerve C5-T1 innervates
All muscles in posterior compartment of arm and forearm
Skin on posterior surface of forearm
Dorsolateral surface of lateral half of hand (superficial branch)
Nerves related to bone
Axillary - posterior aspect of surgical neck of humerus
Radial - diagonally around posterior surface of middle of humerus in radial groove
Ulnar - Posteriorly to medial epicondyle
Cephalic vein
originate from anatomical snuffbox
passes up arm into clavipectoral triangle (between pec major, deltoid and clavicle) and into axilla by penetrating deep fascia just inferior to clavicle
