Scalp Flashcards
Sensory innervation of scalp from
cranial nerves and cervical nerves
Anterior to ears and vertex supplied by branches of trigeminal nerve
Supra-trochlear, supraorbital
Zygomaticotemporal
Auriculotemporal
Posterior to ears and vertex by cervical nerves
Great auricular (anterior rami of C2-3)
Lesser occipital (antrior ramus of C2)
Greater occipital nerve (posterior ramus C2)
Third occipital nerve (posterior ramus C3)
Ear sensory innervation
Top - auriculotemporal nerve
Posterior middle - lesser occipital
Bottom - greater auricular nerve
Inner middle - auricular branch of vagus
Arteries supplying scalp
Either branches of external carotid artery or ophthalmic artery (branch of internal carotid artery)
Branches of ophthalmic artery
supratrochlear and supraorbital for anterior and superior aspect of scalp
3 branches of external carotid artery
superficial temporal - terminal branch (lateral aspect)
posterior auricular - smallest branch (behind ears)
occipital artery - posterior aspect
Lymphatics of scalp
Posterior to vertex of head - mastoid nodes
Anterior - pre-auricular and parotid nodes
