Nervous System Flashcards
Spinal cord T1 to T5 SNS mainly innervate
cranial, cervical and thoracic viscera
SNS from T1 to T5
travels upwards
SNS from T5-L2
travels downwards
White rami communicantes only at which level?
T1 to L2
Preganglionic fibres from T5 to L2 form?
splanchic nerves - greater, lesser, least, lumbar and sacral
SNS and PNS from which spinal cord level?
SNS - T1 to L2
PNS - cranial - III, VII, IX and X and sacral S2 to S4
Cranial nerves for PNS
III - ciliary ganglion - pupillary constriction
VII - pterygopalatine ganglion - lacrimation AND submandibular ganglion - salivation
IX - otic ganglion - parotid salivation
X - thoracic visceral plexus and most abdo viscera
PNS S2 to S4 function
sacral parasympathetic fibres innervating inferior abdo viscera, pelvic viscera (pelvic splanchnic nerves) and arteries associated with erectile tissues of perineum
Visceral plexus
Cardiac, oesophageal and thoracic aorta plexus in thorax
Large prevertebral plexus in abdomen anterior to aorta extending inferiorly to lateral walls of pelvis. Receives input and output from all abdo and pelvic viscera (greater, lesser, least, lumbar and sacral for SNS + pelvic splanchnic for PNS)
Cervical plexus
anterior rami C1 o C4
Brachial plexus
anterior rami C5 to T1
Lumbar plexus
anterior rami L2 to L4
Sacral plexus
anterior rami L4 to S4
Somatic plexus
cervical, brachial, lumbar and sacral
