What is VARIED PRACTISE?
Involves repeating a skill in varying situations.
Advantages of VARIED PRACTISE? [2.5]
- good for open skills
- helps you prepare for game situations
- easier to transfer skills into game situations
Disadvantages of VARIED PRACTISE? [2]
- not good for discrete/closed skills
* not good for beginners (risk of overload)
What is FIXED PRACTISE?
Sometimes known as drills and involves repeatedly practising a whole skill.
Advantages of FIXED PRACTISE? [3]
- strengthens motor programme
- good for discrete/closed
- makes skill habitual (easy to perform with muscle memory)
Disadvantages of FIXED PRACTISE? [3]
- not good for open skills
- can be tedious/de-motivating
- can cause injury by overuse
What is MASSED PRACTISE?
A continuous form of practise.
Advantages of MASSED PRACTISE? [3]
- good for simple/continuous/discrete skills •simulates later stages of a match (experienced performers)
- got to be motivated and fit
Disadvantages of MASSED PRACTISE? [4]
- causes fatigue
- not good for beginners
- tedious/time consuming
- injury risk increases
What is DISTRIBUTED PRACTISE?
Attempts at skill are divided with intervals to allow rest or mental preparation.
Advantages of DISTRIBUTED PRACTISE? [3]
- good for difficult/dangerous/fatiguing skills
- good for low motivated beginners
- rest allows feedback to be given
Disadvantages of DISTRIBUTED PRACTISE? [2]
- not good for simple skills
* adjusting to game situation is more difficult in games where you don’t get rest
