What is reinforcement?
The process which causes a response to occur by forming and strengthening the S-R bond.
What is POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT?
Where a performer is presented with a positive stimulus after desired behaviour has been shown by the learner.
What is an example of POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT?
Praise
Positive feedback
What is NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT?
Where a coach or teacher withdraws a negative stimulus when they see the desired response from the learner.
Negative reinforcement weakens an incorrect S-R bond and strengthens the correct one.
What is an example of NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT?
Taking away privileges

What is PUNISHMENT?
Punishment is used to break an undesirable learning bone. It involves giving an unpleasant stimulus to a performer to prevents a response from occurring.
What is an example of PUNISHMENT?
A coach substituting a play who constantly loses possession of the ball by dribbling too much and not passing.
