Transfer of Learning Flashcards
Gilligan (2000) suggests the transfer of learning takes place:
> Skill to skill
Theory to practice
Training to competition
Positive Transfer:
Where a skill developed in one sport helps the performance of a skill in another sport
e.g. Somersault in trampolining - High dive
Negative Transfer:
Where a skill developed in one sport hinders the performance of a skill in another sport
e.g. Tennis (strong wrist) hits - Badminton (wrist movement) hits
Proactive Transfer:
Where a skill learned in a previous sport has an influence on a new skill being developed
e.g. Chest pass in netball - passing in basketball
Retroactive Transfer:
Where a skill learned in a new sport has an influence on a previously learned skill
e.g. Tennis (strong wrist) hits - Badminton (wrist movement) hits
Zero Transfer:
A skill in one sport has no impact on the learning of a new skill
e.g. A cartwheel in gymnastics - a pass in football
Bilateral Transfer:
Transfer of a skill from one side of the body to the other
e.g. Passing with both feet in football
