Tranexamic Acid Indications
Suspected significant internal or external haemorrhage associated with trauma.
Postpartum Haemorrhage
Tranexamic Acid Contra-indications
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of its excipients
Acute venous or arterial thrombosis
History of convulsions
Known Severe Renal Impairment
Tranexamic Acid Dose
Adult: 1g IV Infusion in 100ml NaCl
Paed: Not Indicated
Tranexamic Acid Pharmacology
Tranexamic acid exerts an anti-haemorrhagic activity by inhibiting the activation of plasminogen to plasmin, by binding to specific sites of plasminogen and plasmin, a molecule responsible for the degradation of fibrin, a protien that forms the framework of blood clots
Tranexamic Acid Side Effects
Diarrhoea
Nausea and Vomiting
Uncommon: Visual Disturbance Impaired coloured vision Dizziness Headache
