250mg / 1g / 2g Powder for solution for injection

Ceftriaxone Administration

A

IV / IO / IM

IV/IO
Reconstitute each 1g vial in 10ml water for injection. administer over 5 mins

IV Infusion
Reconstitute in 100ml NaCl 0.9% or Glucose 5% or 10%. Administer over 30 mins

IM Reconstitute each 1g vial with 3.5ml of 1% Lidocaine and administer by Deep IM injection

Ceftriaxone Contra-indications

A

Age <1 month
KSAR
Hx of Severe Hypersensitivity (anaplylactic reaction) to any Beta-lactam antibacterial (Penicillins, Cephalosporins, Aztreonam, Meropenem, Ertapenem)
Solutions containing Lidocaine should never be administered IV

Adult:
2g IV/IO/IM

Paed:
1 month - 11years: 50mg/kg IV/IO/IM
>11years or >50Kg: 2g IV/IO/IM

Ceftriaxone Additional Info

A

DO NOT MIX with or administer simultaneously with any Calcium-containing intravenous solutions
Preferred route is IV Infusion
IM route only used in exceptional circumstances
Lidocaine only to be used with IM route
