GTN Class
Nitrate. Potent Coronary Vasodilator / Reduces BP / DIlation of systemic Veins
GTN Presentation
Aerosol spray: metered dose 400mcg
GTN Administration
Sublingual (SL)
Hold Pump spray vertically with valve head uppermost.
Place as close to the mouth as possible and spray under the tongue. The mouth should be closed immediately after each dose
GTN Indications
Angina
Suspected Myocardial Infarction (MI)
Pulmonary Oedema
GTN Contraindications
Sys BP <90 mmHg
Viagra or other Phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (sildenafil,taladafil, vardenafil) used within previous 24 hours
Severe Mitral Stenosis
KSAR
GTN Dosage
Adult:
Angina or MI: 400 mcg repeat at 3-5 mins to max 1200mcg
Pulmonary Oedema: 800mcg Repeat X 1
Paed: not indicated
GTN Side Effects
Headache
Transient Hypotension
Flushing
Dizziness
GTN
Additional Info
Caution with inferior wall MI with Right Ventricular Involvement as this may lead to profound hypotension
If the pump is new or has not been used for a week or more the first spray should be released into the air
