falls = 0-4 and 65+
sport and rec = grade school (peak in adolescence and start to decrease in late 20s)
abusive head trauma (<4yo in girls, and <1yo in boys)

what is the problem with concussion stats (1-2million SRC in US)

  • likely underestimated
  • only record of SRC are the ones that got reported
  • at least the same number or double aren’t being reported
  • way less than half treated by the medical system
  • reporting is not always accurate to the cause

A

amount of concussions from falls are larger than any peak in SRC in teens

why was there an increase in ED visits from concussion in 2010 with a plateau in 2018

A

increase in awareness around concussion (sid crosby back to back concussions that took him out for a year)

taking potential long term conseqeunces more seriously

no increases in hospitalisation rates (number of serious head injuries stayed consistent)
