Thoracic Wall Flashcards
Where is the insertion of the thoracic diaphragm?
Into the CTD at the xiphisternal junction level
What lies under the right side of the diaphragm?
The liver
Where does the esophagus pass the diaphragm?
The rt crus
What does the crura transmit?
3 splanchnic nerves,
Phrenic nerve
Pericardiophrenic artery distribution
Accurate ligaments (openings and what they transmit)
What is the suspensory ligament of duodenum (ligament of treiz)?
A ligament that comes from the RT crux of diaphragm to DJF (duodenojejunal flexores/junction)*
Slows food for more absorption
What are the major openings of the diaphragm?
V: vena cava at T8 and phrenic nerve
O: Esophagus at T10 and two vagus nerve
ADA: aorta at t12 and duct (thoracic) and azygous system of veins
What passes through the sternocostal foramen of the diaphragm?
Superior epigastric vessels and lymphatics
What do the 3 rural apertures transmit?
Splanchnic nerves
What does the phrenic nerve supply?
Motor of diaphragm
Sensory: 3ps (insert later), and central tendon of diaphragm
What nerve provides sensory to the peripheral part of the diaphragm?
Lower 6-7 intercostal nerves
How are persons with bathing positioned and why?
At 45 degrees so gravity helps with breathing
MC congenital hernia of diaphragm?
Bochdalek
What is the acquired hernia called?
Rolling of sliding hernia
What ligament is involved in a sliding esophageal hiatus hernia?
Phrenoesophageal ligament
