Where can you find transitional epithelium?
In the urinary tract ( only place it is found)
How does transitional epithelium appear?
They appear dome when relaxed and squamous when stretched.
What does the basal lamina contain?
Glycosaminoglycans
Collagen
Laminan
Fibronectin
What produces the basal lamina?
Epithelial cells
What does the zonula occludens (tight junction) do?
Seals between adjacent epithelial cells
What does the zonula adherens do?
Binds plasma membranes of adjacent epithelial cells together
-it is belt shaped
What does the macula adherens do? (Desmosomes)
Binds to intermediate filament cytoskeleton of adjacent cells to bind together
-spot shaped
What is the gap junction? (Nexus)
Allow for direct communication between cytoplasmic compartments of adjacent cells
