How do thiazide diuretics work?

A
  1. They inhibit sodium reabsorption at the beginning of the distal convoluted tubule.
  2. More sodium gets through to the collecting ducts
  3. Potassium is lost as a result.

  • Dehydration
  • Postural hypotension
  • Hyponatraemia, Hypokalaemia, hypercalcaemi
  • Gout
