His father under the control of the Witch Medea
What did Theseus do ?
In order to not arouse suspicion he did not reveal himself however Medea knew who he was and convinced his father that the stranger was a threat to Athens

Defeat the Bull of Marathon(6) to prove his heroism
It had been terrorising Attica ever since Hercules brought it to Eurystheus
What did Theseus do to overcome the bull?
- he easily mastered the bull and marched in through Athens before sacrificing it

Theseus is riding the bull who is charging fiercely as he puts his weight back in a cord
How did Medea then try to defeat Theseus ?
Attempted to poison him during the sacrifice
Did Medeas second attempt to kill Hercules work ?

He drew his sword as if to carve the meat during the sacrifice out
Aegeus recognised the sword and realising it was his heir knocked over the poison in his excitement
How was Theseus legitimised ?
Aegeus recognised him in front of the city of Athens as his heir
The spilling of the poison exposed Medea and she fled Athens
