The Strucutre And Function Of The Musculoskeletal System Flashcards
What are the Functions of the skeleton?(5!!!!)
-Support:(bones solid and rigid, old body in place)
-Protection:(protect organs from forces)
-Movement:(provides anchor point)
-Structural shape and points for attachment:(are general shape height)
-Mineral storage:calcium
-Blood cell production:RDB &WBD
What does the cartilage provide?
A smooth, friction free surface
What is the function of the synovial membrane?
To produce synovial fluid that lubricates the joint
Function of bursae
Reduce friction at joint(via fluid filled bags)
What is the difference between the ligament and tendon
Ligament attached bone to bone whilst tendon attaches muscle to bone.
What does the capsule provide
A tonight fibrous tissue (support the ligament )
What does the hinge joint allow?
Allows flexión and extension
What are the antagonistic and agonist muscle
Antagonist muscle: contract eccentrically
Agonisti muscle l: contracts concentrically
What is the concentric contraction ?
Muscle tension rises to meet resistance then it stabilizes as muscle shortens
What is an eccentric contraction
When the resistance becomes greater than force produced my muscle. As the muscle lengthens.
What is the difference between an isotonic and isometric movement
Isotonic: muscle changes lengthens
Isometric: muscle doesn’t change length
What does the ball and socket joint provide?
Allows flexión extensión, abduction, adduction and rotation(circumduction)
What is the difference between extension and flexión?
Extensión increases angle of bones at joint
Flexión decreases angle of bones at joint
What is abduction?
Movement of bone or limb away from the midline of the body
What is Adduction?
Movement of the bone ir limb towards the midline of the body
What are the 2 joint at the ankle?
Doris flexión (foot up)and plantar flexión (foot down)
what do bones do with axis
they rotate around an axis
what is Sagittal plane?
this divides the body into left and right
what is transverse plane?
divides body into top and bottom
what is frontal plane?
divides body into front and back
what is transverse axis?
runs through the body from left to right
what is longitudinal axis?
run through body from top to bottom
what is Sagittal axis?
runs through body from front to back
what creates flexion and extension?
sagittal plane and transverse axis
what creates adduction and abduction?
frontal plane and sagittal axis
what creates rotations?
transverse plain and longitudinal axis
