How do we know about the Romans
Archaeological evidence,
They have excavated many places where Romans lived. There are many buildings they have found and artefacts like coins, paintings, statues

The Romans wrote many stories, histories, plays, and other books.
Who could be a Roman citizen and who couldn’t
Not every Roman was a citizen, women and slaves were not allowed to be citizens so this excluded about two thirds of the population.
How did slaves become slaves
Some slaves were criminals, but most of them were foreigners whom Roman soldiers had taken prisoner when they conquered a country. As the Roman Empire got bigger more and more slaves were brought to Rome to do all the hard work
What might happen if a slave served his master well
Sometimes a master freed his slave if he served him well. These lived like normal Romans but could never be roman citizens
Who was allowed to join the Roman army
You had to be a man, no women.
You had to be at least 20 years old.

You couldn’t be married, you were not allowed to be married in the army
