Where is the pancreas?

Is a retroperitoneal organ nested in the curvature, to the right of the spleen

What are the 2 components that make up the pancreas?
A
Endocrine and exocrine

Endocrine pancreas
A
- Largely responsible for hormonal control of blood glucose
- makes up about 1-2% of volume of the pancreas an secretes hormones that help regulate carb metabolism in the body
- endocrine pancreas is made up of islet of langerhans

Exocrine pancreas
A
- Produces digestive juices which are secreted in the duodenum (first part of small intestine)
- acini cells make up the exocrine pancreas
- these cells secrete digestive juices into duodenum via pancreatic duct

What do pancreatic islets secrete?

Insulin and Amylin
- pancreatic islets are made up of beta cells

Glucagon
