over the last 17/18 years, randy culvert worked to develop what?
one of the only calorie weight management programs for kids/families in Canada
what happens once you get invited into the program?
you get invited to the orientation session
why must you attend orientation session?
helps with efficiency of program and prevent from having a wait list

behavioural modification
are the children put on a diet?
no
- diets only work if you stay on it
how often are the appointments?
monthly for a year - average length of the program
when should you follow up with clients?
follow up for a second year (3 times) - to make sure they’re doing okay (8-24 visits in both years)
what is the process of having physiological tests?
meet with physician an have medical history performed, measure perfect body fat in conjunction with height an weight
what physiological tests are generally performed?
lipid panel, insulin, blood glucose, an some may require extensive blood work
what is height an weight necessary for in the program?
to plot values on growth chart and progress
why is it expected that kids will gain height and weight?
because as you grow taller, you get more muscle and bone
when would a stress test be done?
if there are cardiac concerns
why is a fitness test done on the kids?
to show that kids can do vigorous exercise
what is measured in the program?
electrocardiogram, BP, pulmonary function, rule out asthma
what percentage of kids come into the program with asthma?
68
60-70% of all kids entered into the program would have abnormal values of what?
cholesterol and triglycerides as well as hypertension

changes in body composition, decrease in body fat - using mathematical index
what is the mathematical index?
changes in underwater weighting and bioelectrical impedance
- comparison of expected H+ with Wt+ changes over a monthly period
- expected H+ and wt+ multiplied by a factor of 10
what does a positive point gain mean?
means they have a positive change in growth (quicker H+ increase or slower wt increase than expected)
