INSULIN Flashcards
1st action of insulin:
First, it promotes uptake of glucose by target cells and increases glycogen synthesis
2nd action of insulin:
2nd, it prevents fat and glycogen breakdown
3rd action of insulin:
3rd, it inhibits gluconeogenesis and increases protein synthesis
Glut 1:
Present in all tissues and does not require the actions of insulin
Glut 2:
Major transporter for glucose into beta and liver cells
Glut 3:
Major transporter for glucose in neutrons and is highly expressed in brain. Does not require insulin for its action
Glut 4:
Insulin dependent glucose transporter for skeletal and adipose tissue
- stimulated by insular to move from its inactive site to the cell membrane where it facilitates glucose entry
All 4 glut’s:
— Important in the transport ot glucose in to cells of the ns and facilitates glucose movement across blood brain barrier
_ all these glucose transporters move glucose across the cell membrane at a faster rate than would occur with diffusion alone
