What is the OSV Code?
A
The code of safe practice for the carriage of cargoes and persons by offshore supply vessels

What are the main points of the OSV Code?
A
- There should be procedures in place for each stage of the assignment.
- Crews of OSV should be adequately trained
- Safe havens should be properly marked and kept clear
- Before loading, the Master should be told about any dangerous goods, any large or heavy items and any items that are difficult to stow.
- The Master should not accept any cargo which is not adequately packed, not marked or not documented.
- The Master should check sufficient cargo securing gear is available, that it is regularly inspected and logged.
- Cargo hoses should be colour coded at the terminations
- Sufficient PPE is available on board to provide all crew with high vis protection for head, hands and feet as well as a buoyancy aid.
