The femoral triangle (dave's notes) Flashcards
What are the borders of the femoral triangle?
The femoral triangle is a triangle that lies between the inguinal ligament, the medial border of sartorius and the medial border of adductor lungs, resting a gutter shaped floor.
What lies in the gutter shaped floor of the femoral triangle?
The femoral vessels and nerves
What are the muscles found in the floor of the femoral triangle?
Iliacus, psoas, pectineus and adductor brevis.
What is the origin and insertion of sartorius
Origin: Immediately below the ASIS
Insertion: the upper medial surface of the shaft of the tibia
What is the origin and insertion of iliacus
Origin: the iliac fossa within the abdomen
Insertion: The lowermost surface of the lesser trochanter of the femur
What is the origin and insertion of psoas major
Origin: The transverse process of L1-5, bodies of T12-L5 and intervertebral discs below body of T12-L4
Insertion: The middle surface of the lesser trochanter of the femur
What is the origin and insertion of pectineus
Origin: Pectineal line of the pubis and narrow area of suprapubic ramus below it.
Insertion: A vertical line between the spiral line and gluteal crest below the lesser trochanter of the femur
What is the action and nerve supply of sartorius
Flexes, abducts, and laterally rotates the thigh at the hip. Flexes, medially rotates leg at the knee.
Nerve is the anterior division of the femoral nerve.
What is the action and nerve supply of iliacus
Flexes at the hip
Femoral nerve in the abdomen
What is the action and nerve supply of psoas major
Flexes the hip
Anterior primary rami of L1-L2
What is the action and nerve supply of pectineus
Anterior division of femoral nerve
