Adductor muscles, obturator artery and nerve (dave's notes) Flashcards
What is the origin and insertion of gracilis?
Origin: Outer surface of the ishiopubic ramus
Insertion: Upper medial shaft of tibia behind sartorius
List the adductor muscles
Gracilis Adductor longus Adductor brevis Adductor magnus Obturator externus
What is the origin and insertion of adductor longus?
Origin: Body of pubis inferior and medial to the pubic tubercle
Insertion: Lower 2/3rds of the medial linea aspera
What is the origin and insertion of adductor brevis?
Origin: Inferior ramus and body of pubis
Insertion: Upper 1/3rd of the linea aspera
What is the origin and insertion of adductor magnus?
Origin: Adductor portion - ischiopubic ramus
Insertion: adductor portion - lower gluteal line and linea aspera
Origin: Hamstring portion - lower outer quadrant of posterior surface of the ischial tuberosity
Insertion: - hamstring portion - adductor tubercle
What is the origin and insertion of Obturator externus?
Origin: Outer obturator membrane, rim of pubis, and ischium bordering it
Insertion: Trochanteric fossa on medial surface of greater trochanter
What is the action and innervation of gracilis?
Adducts the hip, flexes the knee and medially rotates the flexed knee.
Nerve is the anterior dibision of the obturator nerve.
What is the action and innervation of adductor longus and brevis?
Adducts the hip.
Nerve is the anterior division of the obturator nerve.
What is the action and innervation of adductor magnus?
Adductor portion adducts the hip. Hamstring portion extends the hip.
Nerve to the adductor portion is the posterior division of the obturator. Nerve to the hamstring portion is teh tibial portion to the sciatic.
What is the action and innervation of obturator externus?
Laterally rotates the hip.
Innervation is the posterior division of the obturator nerve.
What is the course of the obturator artery from teh foramen?
Upon emerging from the obturator foramen, the obturator artery divides into medial and lateral branches that encircle ??obturator externus origin and anastomose. From the lateral branch arises a twig to the hip joint.
Where does the obturator nerve divide? Into what?
In the obturator notch dividesinto anterior and posterior dividions.
What is the course of the anterior division of the obturator nerve? What does it supply?
Passes over obturator externus to the hip joint, sub-sartorial plexus, to skin. Supplies adductor longus, brevis and gracilis.
What is the course of the posterior division of the obturator nerve?
Passes through the upoper border ??of what, supplying it ??what, passes down on addeuctor magnus (supplying it), with a twig to the knee capsule, running with the femoral artery and nerve.
What do the anterior and posterior divisions of the obturator nerve straddle?
The adductor brevis muscle.
