Anterior compartment of the thigh - superficial arteries, veins, lymph nodes and vessels (dave's notes) Flashcards
What are the four superficial arteries of the anterior compartment of the thigh?
Superficial circumflex iliac artery
Superficial epigastric artery
Superficial external pudendal artery
Deep external pudendal artery
What is the course of the superficial circumflex iliac artery?
Pierces the fascia lata and passes up to anastomose around the ASIS
What is the course of the superficial epigastric artery?
Emerges then crosses the inguinal ligament to pass up over the anterior abdominal wall
What is the course of the superficial external pudendal artery?
Emerges from the saphenous opening passing medially in front of the cord to supply the skin of the scrotum.
What is the course of the deep external pudendal artery?
Emerges medial to the superficial external pudendal artery and passes behind the cord to supply the cord??
What is the great saphenous vein the continuation of? What is its course? How many valves? Describe tributaries.
The medial marginal vein of the food, spiralling backwards and then forwards passing through the cribriform fascia covering the saphenous opening. Up to 20 valves. Numerous tributaries converge on the upper end generally corresponding with the arteries.
What does lymphatic drainage of the lower limb follow? What pattern?
List the groups of nodes.
A large lymphatic system accompanies the GSV, with other channels converging on the superficial inguinal nodes. Arranged in a T-shaped pattern.
Vertical group
Lateral group
Medial group
Where does lymph drain to from the saphenous opening?
Efferents converge towards the saphenous opening to deep inguinal nodes, medial to the femoral vein, drain to cloquet’s nodes, to para-aortic nodes.
Where does the vertical group of lymph nodes lie? What does it receive?
Lateral to the termination of the GSV and receives from the lower limb.
Where does the lateral group of lymph nodes lie and what does it receive?
Lies lateral below the inguinal ligament and receives from the buttock, flank and back.
Where does the medial group of lymph nodes lie and what does it receive?
Lies medial below the inguinal ligament and reveis from below the umbilicus and perineum.
