It pumps blood throughout the body using blood vessels

What does the atrium do?
It receives blood that comes in the heart
What does the ventricle do?
Pumps blood out of the heart
What is a valve?
A valve is a flap of tissue that prevents blood from flowing backward
What do the valves do?
They separate the ventricles from the large blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart

What are the arteries?
Arteries carry blood away from the heart
What are the capillaries?
They are tiny vessels that exchange substances between the blood and the body cells
What are veins?
They carry blood back to the heart
