Cell Structures Flashcards
What is a nucleus?
It is the cell managing structure, and stores information to make proteins for cell growth.
What is a ribosome?
An organelle that manufactures proteins
What is the nucleolus?
Produces ribosomes
What is the endoplasmic reticulum?
folded sacs that are responsible for protein and lipid synthesis
What is smooth endoplasmic reticulum?
SER does not contain ribosomes, and it is responsible for lipid and carbohydrates synthesis. It also detoxifies harmful substances
What is rough endoplasmic reticulum?
RER contains ribosomes and is responsible for protein synthesis. The proteins produced will also export to other cells.
What is golgi apparatus?
it is a flattened stack of membranes that package proteins into vesicles.
What are vacuoles?
it is a sac to store food, water, and other materials.
What are lysosomes?
they are vesicles that contain substances that digest viruses, bacteria, and worn-out organelles
