Cellular Growth Flashcards
What are the three main stages of the cell cycle?
Interphase, Mitosis, Cytokinesis
What are the three stages of interphase?
G1 , Synthesis, G2
What happens in G1?
The cell grows and does it’s normal metabolic activities
What happens in synthesis?
It gets started with DNA and chromosome replication
What happens in G2?
Structures involved with mitosis are formed
What is the telomere?
The ends of the chromosome
What is binary fission?
the process in which the DNA replicates without the use of mitosis
What is chromatin?
relaxed/destructured form of the chromatid
What is chromatid?
single strand DNA from the chromosome
What is mitosis?
nuclear cell division where the nucleus of the cell divides into two
What is cytokenesis?
happens at the end of mitosis and is the division of a cell forming two daughter cells
What happens in the cytokinesis in animal cells?
microfilaments pinch in at the cleavage furrow in the cytoplasm and cell splits into two
What happens in the cytokinesis in plant cells?
A cell plate forms in between the two daughter nuclei which then causes cell walls to form on either side and splitting in half
