Cellular Respiration Flashcards
What are the functions of cellular respiration?
harvest electrons from gluecose, use energy to make ATP, ATP is used by cells to do work
Where does cellular respiration take place?
Mitochondria
What is the matrix in the mitochondria?
It is the spaces in the inner membrane
What is the cristae in the mitochondria?
The folds of inner membrane that fill in the mitochondria
What is glycologsis?
it is an anaerobic process taking place in the cytoplasm where gluecose is split into two molecules of pyruvate
What are the end products of glycolosis?
2 pyruvate molecules; 2 NADH ; 2 ATP
What is the kreb cycle?
aerobic process where pyruvate is broken down into carbon dioxide
What is the net yielf from kreb cycle?
6 CO2, 2 ATP, 8 NADH, 2 FADH
