What is photosynthesis?
The process where light energy is converted into chemical energy
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
carbon dioxide + water = glucose + oxygen
What is the upper and lower epidermis covered by?
Cuticle
What are stomata?
they allow water and gas diffusion into the leaf for photosynthesis
Where are stomata located?
Lower epidermis, few to none in the upper epidermis
What is mesophyll?
Photosynthetic cells located in the middle of the leaf
What are the two types of mesophyll?
palisade and spongy
What are palisade?
main site of photosynthesis, made of elongated cells with a bunch of chloroplasts
Where are palisade located?
below the epidermis
What are spongy?
main site for gas exchange, made of rounded packed cells with air spaces
Where are spongy located?
located below the palisade
What are the two types of spongy?
xylem and phloem
What is the xylem?
vascular tissues carrying water
What is the ploem?
vascular tissues carrying food
