How the Nervous System Works Flashcards
What are the functions of the nervous system?
The Nervous System gathers and interprets information in your body. It also responds to the received information and helps maintain homeostasis.
What are neurons?
A neuron is a nerve cell that transfers messages in the form of fast moving electrical energy called impulses.
What are the 5 parts of a neuron?
Dendrites, cell body, nucleus, axon, and axon endings.
Which direction do the impulses in a neuron go?
Downwards, to the direction of the axon terminals.
How many types of neurons are there?
3, sensory neurons, motor neurons, and interneurons.
What are sensory neurons?
Sensory neurons send impulses from sensory organs to the brain
What are nerves made up of?
axons, blood vessels, and connective tissue.
