Plants and Tissues Pt 1 Flashcards
What do plant cells consist of?
cell wall surrounding membrane, large vacuole, and chloroplast
What are the three types of plant cells?
parenchyma, collenchyma, sclerenchyma
What are parenchyma cells?
cube/elongated shaped, large vacuole, thing cell wall, some have many chloroplasts
What are parenchyma cells involved in?
storage, photosynthesis, gas exchange, protection, tissue repair and replacement
What are collenchyma cells?
thicker than parenchyma, think but weird shaped cell wall
What are collenchyma cells involved in?
support for tissues, provides flexibility for plants, tissue repair
Where are collenchyma cells found?
great amount in celery stalks
What are sclerenchyma cells and where can they be found?
think rigid cell wall, often die at maturity, found in nut shells.
What are sclerenchyma cells involved in?
support for frame, transport of materials
What are the 4 different tissue types?
meristematic, dermal tissue, vascular, ground tissue
What is meristematic tissue?
plant growth is focused in meristems (regions of rapid cell division)
What are the different types of meristems?
apical meristems, intercalary, lateral
