- gets metabolized into normeperidine which is a toxic metabolite (crosses BBB)
- we might use this for pt’s allergic to morphine
- avoid use in elderly or with renal impairment -> seizure risk

- butorphanol
- Opioid analgesic (agonist-antagonist)
- Not for use in opioid-dependent patients
- potential for physical withdrawal symptoms

- used on pts who can’t use the other pain medications
- naloxone is to make sure that ppl do not abuse as iv drug
