Aldactone ®
A
- spironolactone
- Diuretic - potassium sparing
- 25-200mg/day: edema (CHF, cirrhosis)
- 50-100mg/day; HTN
- competes with aldosterone for receptor sites in kidney -> increase Na, Cl, and water excretion while conserving K+ and H+
- give early in the morning

A
- Diuretics - potassium sparing diuretics
- ACEI and ARBs are also used for CHF which can increase K
- K supplements
- salt substitute has K
- Digoxin used in CHF (makes pt feel better) or used in afib; if K is high, it makes digoxin toxic

- Leukotriene receptor antagonist
- used for asthma, allergic rhinitis
- not first line of therapy
- Maintenance treatment
- 4mg qpm age 2-5
- 10mg qpm age >= 15

- Leukotriene receptor antagonist
- asthma - maintenance
- take BID
- take on empty stomach
- 20 mg bid (adults/children > 12)

A
- zileuton
- Lipoxygenase inhibitor, inhibits leukotriene formation
- Maintenance treatment
- take with food; do not break, crush, or chew
- food helps absorbs this drug
- two 600mg tablets BID with morning and evening meals

- treatment of persistent allergic asthma
- SQ injections Q2-4weeks determined by IgE level
- 0.016 mg/kg/unit of IgE

- Leads to a reduction of blood, tissue and sputum eosinophil levels
- treatment of severe eosinophilic asthma
- decrease inflammation

- Prostaglandin analog
- increase outflow of aq humor
- used for open angle glaucoma
- may cause brown pigmentation in iris
- when opened, pt can keep at room temp
- 1 gtt in affected eye(s) qpm

- 0.01%: open angle glaucoma
- 0.03%: Latisse
- may cause brown pigmentation in iris
- 1 gtt in affected eye(s) qpm
