Q

What are the arrangements for TBW?

A

Brought to signal at danger with hand signaller and red flag (this is entrance signal), 2nd hand signaller located at exit signal, 1st hand signaller issues TBW ticket (RT3184), once you have RT3184 and yellow hand signal you have authority to temporarily isolate TPWS and enter at caution completing the ticket instructions.

The entrance and exit signals are held at danger with a detonator which is removed after issuing RT3184 and displaying yellow flag or after having RT3184 returned and displaying yellow flag.

At the exit signal, return RT3184 to hand signaller, reinstate TPWS, wait for signal to clear, detonator to be removed and yellow flag shown before proceeding past exit signal.

20
Q

What are the requirements for ESW?

A

1) TCB multi-track lines only (not permitted on single lines)
2) Must take place in normal direction
3) 2 or more signals must be defective or disconnected

21
Q

How would you be notified of ESW?

A

On the move

22
Q

How would you be notified of ESW on the move?

A

Brought to a signal at danger which becomes the entrance signal and you would contact the signaller immediately for instructions.

23
Q

What ticket is required for ESW and who dictates this?

A

NR3190 which must be carried by driver at all times.

This is dictated by the signaller.

24
Q

What serves as your authority to temporarily isolate TPWS and enter ESW?

A

A completed NR3190.

25
Q

Can you proceed into ESW without an NR3190?

A

No

26
Q

What information is contained on the NR3190?

A

Signals to disregard and exit signal location.

27
Q

What must you do with the signaller before entering ESW?

A

Reach clear understanding and complete NR3190 together. Challenge incorrect information.

28
Q

What must you remember to do before entering ESW and why?

A

Temporarily isolate TPWS to prevent brake demands as you pass signals at danger.

29
Q

Who must you inform before entering ESW and why?

A

The guard in case any stations fall within ESW and they may need to dispatch against a red or if your train fails within ESW they may need to lay emergency protection.

33
Q

How must you approach any level crossings that fall within ESW?

A

At caution as may be defective, only pass if safe.

34
Q

Where must the exit location be in ESW?

A

At an easily identifiable location

35
Q

What may an easily identifiable location be?

A

Station, junction, tunnel or level crossing.

36
Q

What may be present at the exit location/easily identifiable location?

A

An end of emergency special working sign (‘EW’ with a cross through it)

37
Q

Will there always be an ‘EW’ sign at the exit location?

A

No but you would be made aware of whether an ‘EW’ sign is present or not.

38
Q

What are your actions when reaching the exit signal?

A

Stop and contact the signaller for permission to pass the exit signal.

39
Q

What must you do with your NR3190 at the end of ESW?

A

Write ‘cancelled’ and fax off at depot.

40
Q

Once you have written ‘cancelled’ on your NR3190 and received permission to leave ESW, what are your actions?

A

41
Q

What do you require as authority to leave ESW?

A

42
Q

What are your actions if there is no hand signaller at the entrance to TBW?

A

Stop and contact signaller immediately.

43
Q

Will you receive an RT3184 or NR3190 if arriving to REAR a train? Why?

A

No as the failed train already has this.

44
Q

If you are entering TBW/ESW to rear, how must you proceed and why?

A

At caution as the exact location of the train may be unknown as the signals are defective.

45
Q

When entering to REAR, what must the driver of the failed train show to the assisting driver?

A

The RT3184 or NR3190 must be shown to the assisting driver and then kept in the original leading cab.

46
Q

What is required if the exit signal is also the entrance signal to another TBW/ESW section?

A

A new RT3184 or NR3190

47
Q

What are your actions if your train fails in TBW/ESW and you cannot contact the signaller immediately? Why do you need to do this course of action?

A

You must carry out emergency protection to the rear of your train (as signals behind you defective) and apply TCOCs.

As signals defective, trains may approach from rear accidentally or to assist you and your exact location may be unknown.
