15
Q

What is the risk with Echo sidings?

A

Due to the length of Echo, you may not be able to see whether the position light is clear. You must ask permission from the signaller to draw forward to check whether the position light has cleared

16
Q

Why must you not draw forward to check the position light on echo sidings without first asking for permission from the signaller?

A

In case he has signalled another train to enter the sidings on top of you.

A

A re-platforming shunt where you get behind the position light that is usually cleared for movements into platforms 3, 2 & 1 to save you going into the Head Shunt when moving between these platforms.

A short shunt is also possible behind the position light that is usually cleared for movements into platforms 6 & 7 to save you going into the Head Shunt when moving between these platforms.

Q

What is unique about Charlie sidings?

A

You must get a line block if doing anything on the right hand side of the train (conflicting with Delta sidings). Always get on or off from the pavement between Charlie and Bravo as no line block needed for this.

A

U = Up Scarborough (facing road)

43
Q

What would be your first signal if signalled onto The Angle?

52
Q

After leaving The Angle and getting behind the position light on the Up Main, how must you proceed when this clears & where is your next signal?

A

Moving position light to position light. Next GPL is the one adjacent to the Head Shunt that is obeyed when making a main line shunt. Then you may need to obey third position light if moving into platforms 6/7 or 3/2/1.

A

They are both around a right hand bend

65
Q

How many position lights must you obey when coming off The Angle onto the Up Main?

A

First position light when coming off angle and changing ends
Second GPL adjacent to head shunt
Potentially third GPL if shunting into platform 6/7 or 3/2/1.

66
Q

Can you drive trains into the sheds at BG?

A

No, only depot drivers can do this.

67
Q

Who can authorise a movement at BG?

A

The Designated Person ONLY

68
Q

How do you identify the Designated Person?

A

Wearing armband

69
Q

What is the procedure for making a shunt from a platform to BG?

A

Obtain instruction from DSM or work to diagrammed instructions.

Contact signaller requesting the shunt.

The signaller must then contact BG and ask for their permission to send you in. Once the signaller gets this permission, they can clear the signal and give a ‘W’ indication.

Proceed at 15mph on main line, 5mph when on wash road, 3mph through wash and then 5mph once clear of wash.

Driver must check that the route is set on 2 sets of points onto the 3 road fuel (not Hymers siding). Stop to do so and manually set points if required.

Bring train to a stand at the stop board and hand over to depot driver. If no depot driver, must shut train engines down, display tail lights and secure train before walking on the designated walking route to the office to inform of the stabled train. Then wait at depot gates for transport back to station unless there is a train to take back. You must not make any movement beyond the stop board.

70
Q

Who’s permission is required to rejoin the main line from BG?

A

The signaller. You must contact the signaller when on the Bypass line and request to move back to the station. When this is possible, your signal will clear.

71
Q

Before reaching the Bypass line, who can authorise movements at BG?

A

The DP ONLY

72
Q

If receiving an instruction to move a train for departure from BG, who must you receive this and in what form must this be?

A

The DP ONLY. Must have verbal and written instruction on an authorisation slip.

73
Q

What must your actions be if you receive an instruction to move a train from someone other than the DP?

A

You must challenge and report this.

74
Q

What route indication must you receive at the platform to go to BG?

A

W for Wash Road

75
Q

Can you ever make a movement into Hymers Siding?

A

Only if met at the check points board by the DP and if there is no depot driver on duty, you may stable a train (no longer than 4 cars) to the buffer stop and ensure the train is clear of any adjacent roads.

76
Q

Can you ever make a movement beyond the stop board at BG?

A

Never.

77
Q

Can you wait on the train whilst it is being fuelled if taking it back to the station after?

A

Only if you wait in the saloon and do not distract any depot driver from their duties/safety prep of the train.

78
Q

If you are required to take a train back from BG, what is the procedure?

A

Must receive verbal and written authority on slip from DP.

Must depart via Bypass line only

DP to instruct driver to retrieve a train from either Hymers siding or a train at the stop board on the bypass line only.

If departing from Hymers siding, max. 5mph and must check the points are set correctly onto Bypass line. Getting out to set them if required.

Driver must then proceed towards stop board on bypass line, cancelling depot test magnet.

Once at stop board, contact signaller and request movement back to station. Must wait for position light HP1001 to clear and an ‘R’ indication to be displayed beneath the stop board before passing the stop board.

79
Q

When at the stop board waiting to come back to the station from BG, can you accept a position light to proceed?

A

You must have a position light and an ‘R’ indication

80
Q

What is the local instruction regarding the sidings at Hull station?

A

Drivers must request permission from the signaller to proceed up to the position light if required as signaller may have authorised another train into the siding. You cannot just move around or draw forward to the signal without permission.

81
Q

What is the maximum amount of cars that can fit in Alpha sidings?

A

3 cars - a 170 can just fit but nothing else can go on top.

82
Q

Which platforms at Hull are permissive?

A

All of them.

83
Q

What indications would you expect to receive when making a mainline shunt?

A

‘M’ and a single yellow aspect (because you are entering a signalling section so the signaller needs to ensure the section is unoccupied by confirming with Hessle Road that any trains have passed HR7 before allowing you to enter & the next signal (HR7) ahead before Anlaby Road Jn is red- you then change ends and obey the Main line shunt position light).

84
Q

What indications would you expect to receive when making a shunt into the Head Shunt?

A

‘H’ with red aspect & position light with 2 whites at 45 (entering permissively being prepared to stop short of BOTS- signaller cannot confirm for certain that the head shunt is unoccupied)

85
Q

What indications would you expect to receive when making a shunt onto the Wash Road?

A

‘W’ with red aspect & position light with 2 whites at 45 (entering permissively being prepared to stop short of BOTS- signaller cannot confirm for certain that the wash road is unoccupied)

86
Q

What indications would you expect to receive when making a short shunt?

A

Single yellow and ‘M’. Must confirm with signaller if getting behind mainline shunt GPL or short shunt GPL- move is set the same by signaller for both as he needs to confirm with Hessle Road that train ahead has occupied their section but need to confirm which GPL you are getting behind.

87
Q

When shunting from the head shunt into a platform, which platforms require position lights to be cleared after obeying the initial position light in the head shunt?

A

1, 2, 3, 6, 7

88
Q

Where do you stop in the head shunt in a 2 car train?

A

Blue door/ramp

89
Q

Where do you stop in the head shunt in a 3 car train?

A

Wooden fence/grey gate

90
Q

If proceeding towards BG via the wash with a broken window, what are your actions?

A

Press cancel wash button on approach to wash plant.

91
Q

What indication do you need if travelling facing road on the Main Line towards Anlaby Road Junction/The Angle?

A

X

92
Q

Where is the fire evacuation point?

A

Outside of Royal Hotel

93
Q

What indication do you need in the route indicator at Hull from the platform if proceeding towards Bypass Line?

A

Cannot perform this move

94
Q

Where are 153 units prohibited?

A

Alpha sidings
