Technical- Part 5 Flashcards
What is effective stress?
Portion of the total stress carried by the rock
What is total stress?
Lithostatic and tectonic, (lithostatic - Poisons, pore pressure). Tectonic geological position
what happen with High Young Modulus
and Low Young Modulus?
High Young Modulus- fracture is not as wide, but is much longer.
Low Young Modulus - fractur is wider and the length is shorter.
Why is toughness important?
High toughness means high breakdown pressure and short frac lengths.
What affects your width?
Proppant conc, rate, viscosity…
What is a clastic material and a non clastic material?
Clastic – shale, Sandstone (made for organic materia)
Non-Clastic – Limestone, dolomite (non Organic materia)
What is a petroleum system?
Source, Reservoir, Cap, Trap
Reservoir Fluids
- Black Oil, Volatile Oil, Retrograde, Wet Gas, Dry Gas
Darcys law
Oil flows in a radial pattern towards the wellbore
Darcys equation for radial flow assumes the following conditions:
- The permeability expressed as k in the equation is effective permeability.
- The reservoir is homogeneous.
- Isothermal conditions exist.
- No turbulence (laminar flow) exists
- The fluid is nonreactive.
- What is skin?
- Skin is an overall change in the production characteristics of the well near the wellbore.
- Skin represents some physical impairment that adds an additional pressure drop to the system.
- Skin can be either restrictive to flow as a positive value or helpful to flow as a negative value.
- Three principle Drive Mechanisms:
- Solution Gas Drive (Depletion Drive)
- Gas Cap Expansion Drive
- Water Drive
