Teething
A
- Pain increased biting chewing and dribbling
- Red swollen gums
- At 4-12 months teeth starts growing
- Ear pulling more pain not eating

Treatment for teething
A
- Paracetamol 120 per 5 ml sugar free suspension >3 month
- Iboprofen 100 mg in 5ml cannot be given to less than 5 kg

When do you refer teething to the GP
A
- Raised temperature over 38 degrees
- Changre in passage of stools
- Infant is systematically unwell

Warnings for teething
A
- Cool sugar free drinks to sooth gums
- Don’t use cooling gels containing salicytes for under 16s as causes rye’s syndrome

Threadworms
A
- Itching around the anus
- Treat if eggs are found by treating all the members of your household

Treatment for Threadworms
A
- Hygine measures or mebenazole 100mg/5ml
- Infants under 6 months only hygine measures could be used but not licenced for over 2 years (suspension)
- Contraindications for pregnant and breastfeeding women
- Reinfection common take a second dose 2 weeks after

A
- Nail biting finger sucking
- Avoid sharing towels
- Don’t eat food in the bedroom

Causes
Colic
A
- Self limiting condition crying excessively tipically late afternoon
- Indigestion and trapped wind temporary gut sensitivity
- Kicking pain in the abdomen area

Treatment for colic
A
- Reassure the infant that colic will resolve
- Hold baby through crying episode
- Gentle motion white noise
- trapped milk in stomach so hold by abdomen

- Weak high pitched continous cry
- Floppy when picked up
- Green vomit isn’t feeding
- Blood in stool

Head lice
A
- Small white brown insects behind ears at the back of neck
- Itchy scalp somthing is moving
- Confirmed with wet or dry comb method

Treatment for head lice
A
- Hedrin 4% (dimeticone) second line of defence if person returns in 2 weeks above 6 months

Warnings about the cautions of using hedrin
A
- Continue until no lice is found after 3 sessions
- Keep afro hair short and more manageable

Nappy rash causes
A
- Mild rash in the nappy area
- Caused by feaces and urine with redness
- Candidal fungal infection

- Bacterial infection such as marked redness with severe inflammation
