TNCs, individuals and governement agencies can protect new innventions, trademarks, artistic works and trade secrets from use of others
What is counterfeiting?
The act of illegally creating facsimiles of a product, document, or currency. These fake items are ussually sold at a high cost and made of poor quality

Why does counterfeiting create problems with G8 countries?
Creates poor relationships between G8 countries and countries like China. Possibility fo trade agreements being made is limited is one side believe the other will not ‘play by the rules’. TNCs may be reluctant to invest in China, knowing profits may be reduced by counterfeiting
Why is counterfeiting increasing?
- Greater demand for Westernised, consumer goods, at a cheaper price so they are accessible to all
- Move to secondary industries in developing coutries - workers and people are more familiar with goods, so it makes it easier to conuntefeit and reproduce - lots of TNC outsourcing
How is counterfeiting limited?
