inflammatory arthritis
e.g. RA
inflammatory bowel disease.

Mechanism of action
A
prodrug for 5-ASA which works through decreasing neutrophil chemotaxis alongside suppressing proliferation of lymphocytes and pro-inflammatory cytokines.

What conditions would cause you to use sulfasalazine with caution
A
G6PD deficiency
allergy to aspirin or sulphonamides (cross-sensitivity)

Adverse effects of sulfasalazine
A
oligospermia
Stevens-Johnson syndrome
pneumonitis / lung fibrosis
myelosuppressio
Heinz body anaemia
megaloblastic anaemia
