Suboccipital Region Flashcards
Nerves in Suboccipital Region
Superficial and Intermediate Muscles
Spelius Capitis and Cervicis
Capitis attachments
Ligamentum nuchae + C7-T3 spinous processes to occipital bone (superior nuchal) and mastoid
Spelius Capitis and Cervicis
Cervicis attachments
T3-T6 spinous proceses to C1-C2 transverse processes
Splenius Capitis and Cervicis
Innervation
Posterior rami C1-C6
Spelius Capitis and Cervicis
Movements
Bilateral - Extend neck and head
Unilateral - Flexes and rotates to same side
Semispinalis Capitis
Attachment
C4-T7 transverse processes to occipital bone between nuchal lines
Semispinalis Capitis
Function
Extends cervical spine (both), bend to same side and rotates to opposite side (one)
Semispinalis Capitis
Innervation
Posterior rami
Longissimus Capitis
Attachment
T1-T3 plus C4-C7 transverse process to mastoid process
Longissimus Capitis
Function
Extends head (both), flexes and rotates head to same side
Longissimus capitis
Innervation
Posterior Rami
Suboccipital Muscles
Rectus Capitis Posterior (major and minor)
Attachment
Major = C2 spinous process to inferior nuchal lineMinor = C1 posterior tubercle to inferion nuchal line
Rectus Capitis Posterior (major and minor)
Function
Extend head (both), rotate to same side (one)
