what does autocratic mean?
A
- absolute authority and control is retained by the leader
- managers have the complete say in what employees do and how they act, employees are not consulted
- obedience is expected without questions and can be viewed as bossy and controlled.

what are the advantages of autocratic leadership?
A
- quick decision making
- employees get direct assistance from the top
- clear expectations of what needs done

- lack of input from employees
- employees are totally dependent on leaders
- poor motivator as no opportunity for delegation and responsibility

A
- there is good communication between manager and employees
- employees have a say in decisions
- managers have the overall say in the outcome but employees are also consulted

- employees are more engaged and motivated as they are consulted during decision making
- empowerment -greater job satisfaction
- employees are better prepared for promotion as they have more responsibilities

- some may require close supervision
- requires effective leader to ensure all employee are still during their job

- manager set tasks but don’t supervise
- manager leave staff to do their job without interfering
- delegate power and authority to employees and they solve their own problems

- high degree of trust among employees
- increased motivation as employees are high empowered
- reduction in stress for managers, creates more relaxed working environment
- employees develop skills quickly

what are the disadvantages of laissez faire leadership?

- employees may feel more pressure
- poor quail it’s output can occur if there’s no supervision
- employee can request higher wages for taken on more responsibility

- the task - a complex will require more direction from management. whereas a more creative task would benefit from hands off approach
- time available - there may be a tight deadline to complete a project, therefore less time for discussion
- skills of staff - high skilled staff are less supervision

- availability of finance
- corporate culture
