what is internal recruitment?
employees who currently work for the business can be promoted to the new job in the same business
what is external recruitment?
employees do not currently work for the business given a job. these will be advertised via job centres or in store
what are the cost of internal recruitment?
- usually less applicants
- promoting an existing employee can create another vacancy
- there is no fresh and new ideas coming into the business
- conflict can arise due to one employee being promoted over another
what are the benefits of internal recruitment?
- advertising costs less
- employee know the business - save on training and time
- opportunity to gains. promotion can motivate employees
- vacancies are usually filled quicker
what are the costs of external recruitment?
- induction training needed
- lot of applicants - selection process longer
- demotivate staff as they feel no opportunity for promotion
- chosen candidate may not live up to application and turn out to be unsuitable for the job
what are the benefits of external recruitment?
- wider pool of applicants to choose from
- staff brought from outside the organisation can bring in fresh new ideas
- opportunity to head hunt candidate
- avoid creating another vacancy to fill
- avoid conflict

prepare a job analysis ( 2 documents: job description and person specification)
what is a job description?
give candidates more info about eh job such as working hours and pay
what is a person specification?
describes the ideal candidate the employer is looking for (skills and qualities)
what is step 3 in the recruitment process?
advertise the job - a advert will need to be create and displayed in a variety of ways: intranet (INT), notice board (INT), newspapers (EXT), job centres (EXT)
what is step 4 in the recruitment process?
issue application forms and request CV
what is step 5 in the recruitment process?
receive completed applications
what is step 6 in the recruitment process?
short list candidates
what is step 7 in the recruitment process?
