what is maslow’s hierarchy of needs?
maslow said that humans have 5 sets of needs which come in set order. Each level is satisfied the motivation to fill the next.
what is psychological needs?
the basic need to bodily functions to stay alive
what are the methods of fulfilling psychological needs?
living wage, sae working environment, access to running water and toilet
what is safety?
feels safe at work, home financially and physically
methods of fulfilling safety?
job security, safe working conditions, wage rises
what is love and belonging?
to fulfil social needs such as friendship and family
what are the methods of fulfilling love and belonging?
team atmosphere, friendly management
what is self esteem?
to feel worth and respected
how to fulfil self esteem?
recognise achievements, job title
what is self actualisation?
to realise potential and have status in life

what is the Hersbergs theory?
employees are motivated by 2 sets of factors: motivators and hygiene factors
what are hygiene factors?
these will not motivate employee but if they are not met they will demotivate employees.
such as clean toilets, safe working environment.
what are motivator factors?
if these are absent, they will not lower motivated but if present they can increase motivation

how is it the managers role to motivate employees?
it is managers just to motivate employees and it is their role to ensure hygiene factors are met
what is fair pay effect on motivation?
employees work to earn money to satisfy their needs and wants. If they believe their pay rate is poor, they will be demotivated and less productive
what is incentives effect on motivation?
if non financial incentives are offered (cars,discounts) this will motivate as it is seen as a reward
what is permanent contacts effect on motivation?
employees need to feel as though they have job security, permanent contacts will make employees feel more secure than temporary and will invest themselves into the job more
what is good working conditions effect on motivation?
employees need to feel safe when they are at work. bad working condition will demotivate employees.
