what is traditional appraisals?
- this is a 2 way meeting between two members of staff to discuss the employees performance and set targets for the future
- this is usually a formal meeting between an employee and their line manager
- this meeting usually highlights area for training
what is peer to peer appraisal?
this is when the appraisal is carried out by a colleague at the same level in the organisation
what is 360 appraisal?
this type of appraisal is conducted by the HR management or line nagware but as well as interviewing the employee about their won performance, they interview fellow colleagues supervisor about employees performance
what are the advantages of traditional appraisals?
- positive feedback and targets can be given which will motivate and employees
- training needs can be highlight - motivating and can increased quality output
- employees can be identified for promotions which can street their loyalty to the business
- strong relationships can be formed
what are the disadvantages to traditional appraisals?
- negative feedback can be given which csn demotivate employees
- if a few areas of development are highlighted this can stress the employee
- appraisals are time consuming and will result in less work being carried out
- employees can resent the appraisal system as they feel they are being checked up on
what are the advantages of peer to peer appraisals?
employees may be more relaxed as feedback is given by a colleague
what are the disadvantages of peer to peer appraisal?
personal relationship could result in the appraisal being ineffective
what are advantages of 360 degree appraisals?
a complete employee profile is gained

some employee may find it difficult to be critical about their colleagues
