Q

Life Events :( Perception of stress

A

Inds will perceive the event differently. E.g. death of a spouse = highly stressful if they are young and die unexpectedly; death of a spouse following a long illness doesn’t provoke the same intensity of feeling.
Weakens the validity of the life changes-stress link as individual differences are not considered.

Q

Life Events :( Negative L/E are more likely to cause stress

A

Evidence suggests negative life changes = more likely to cause stress than positive ones.

Weakens the original proposal of the link between life changes and stress, which was that it is the amount of readjustment needed which causes stress, rather than if the event is positive or negative.
