chlamydia trachomatis (gram -ve bacteria)

how symptomatic is it?
A
asymptomatic in 50% men and 75% women

presentation?
A
- purulent discharge
- dysuria
- pelvic pain
- IMB/PCB

on examination?
A
- cervical excitation
- fever

Ix?
A
NAAT of vaginal swab / first catch urine sample in males

Mx?
A
Doxycycline for 7 days or single dose Azithromycin

Q
complications?
A
- same as gonorrhoea
-
lymphogranuloma venerum
- affects lymphoid tissue around site of infection in pts with chlamydia
- treatment is same as per chlamydia
