how do you deal with genital herpes in pregnancy?

A
  • deliver by C-section if within 6 weeks of primary exposure
    • takes 6 weeks for maternal antibodies to develop & cross placenta to protect foetus
    • vaginal birth would put infant at risk
  • aciclovir if severe
