what are bartholin’s glands?
A
a pair of glands either side of posterior part of vaginal opening

pathology behind bartholin’s cyst?
A
glands become blocked and swell and become tender

management for cyst?
A
will usually resolve by itself w conservative treatment (good hygiene, analgesia, warm compresses)

Q
what can happen to the cyst?
A
become infected –> bartholin’s abscess
will be hot, tender, red

Mx of bartholin’s abscess?
A
- Abx
- fluclox/ erythromycin/co-amoxiclav
- if it becomes v large or doesn’t respond- surgical incision & drainage
