aetiology?
A
infection- usually through ascending infection from cervix

most common causative organisms?
A
chlamydia and gonorrhoea

presentation?
A
- pelvic pain/ pain in lower abdo
- fever
- dysuria
- vaginal discharge
- abnormal bleeding
- deep dyspareunia

Ix?
A
- FBC,CRP
- ensure HCG negative
- high vaginal & endocervical swabs
- pelvic USS

Q
Mx?
A
Abx as per guidelines:
- oral ofloxacin + metronidazole
- IM ceftriaxone + oral doxycycline + metronidazole
surgical –> in severe cases w evidence of pelvic abscess

Q
what other parts of mx should be considered?
A
- referral to GUM clinic
- consider removing IUD

Q
complications?
A
- tubo-ovarian abscess
- infertility
- ectopic pregnancy
- chronic pelvic pain
