Status epilepticus criteria

Answer 1

a single seizure lasting >5 minutes
OR
>= 2 seizures within a 5-minute period without the person returning to normal between them

Question 2

Status epilepticus management

Answer 2

ABCDE (esp airway adjunct, oxygen and capillary glucose)
Benzodiazepines (IV lorazepam, rectal or buccal midazolam)
Repeat benzodiazepine dose once after 10-20 minutes
Second line phenytoin or phenobarbital infusion
If not terminated within 45 mins of onset, general anaesthesia
